How to Choose Your Web Hosting?

You are looking to buy web hosting. You do a search and you come up with a list of web hosting companies. Now how do you decide which one is good for you? First you should carry out a search and find out what users are saying about the company - their reviews. Web hosting is a very competitive market and they will promise you anything just so that you will buy hosting from them.

Once you have established a list of the companies, based on your research, of what you think are good and reputable, you should then begin to look for the package that would best suit you within these companies. What makes a good host is positive reviews on uptime and support. Also try to find out what people say about their response time - if they have a quick response time or not - you can do this by calling their support phone line and ask them a question or you may even submit a ticket with your question and see how long they take to respond.

Another way of finding out about whether a web hosting company is good or bad, is by visiting forums, pertaining to your subject of course, and asking questions about how good they are. Generally forums offer a lot of information.

It might also be a good idea to visit different sites that give reviews on different web hosting companies. If there are many users that recommend a particular site then it might be a good option to sign up with that company.

You can also email the particular company you are interested in and ask the many questions that you want to ask of them. If they respond soon and seem to be knowledgeable, if they treat you like a person (are their replies personal?) and not just a customer, then I think they would qualify as a good hosting company. Ask them if they can do a ping test for speed, etc. Find out how long they have been in the business - a host who has been in the business for 20 years is much better than a host who has been in the business for say 5 years - sometimes this may not always be true though. You have to do your due diligence.

Find out if the company has been bought out or merged several times. If this happens there is a likelihood that staff may also change, as the key to long term stability is long term staff. With this change the rules and experience tend to change too.

Another important point to keep in mind is can the web hosting company support the latest add-ons and technologies. In my opinion, if you want to have good and reliable support, price should be secondary to support. Today we have the option of choosing web hosting from a large number of companies, so choose wisely.
